1/31/2024 0 Comments Resident evil 3 remake monsters![]() Taking him from a stereotypical “latin lover” to a serious trained soldier, while still having a handful of quips for his counterpart, was a great move. Carlos however has the biggest and greatest overhaul. ![]() She regularly puts other characters like Carlos in their place with witty comments and snide reminders that this isn’t her first rodeo with Umbrella’s monsters. Jill was never a damsel in distress and she certainly isn’t here either. Jill and Carlos’s personalities are expanded on beautifully. Story wise I found RE3 a mixed bag of great things that left me wanting and expecting more. Carlos instead gets a haymaker punch which will do damage as well know knock enemies down, useful to get a few more shots in while something is recovering. It’s quite cool and requires a bit of practice but is totally worth it. When timed perfectly we get a slow-mo chance that auto aims Jill on an enemy weak point. I really love playing this title thanks to its great controls and weapon selection. Jill definitely exudes a trained vet energy compared to Leon and Claire’s no experience. The controls in RE3 are a more refined experience leaning towards combat. It just was a bit of a low point when the original game has a handful of seemingly random variables that can change when and how Nemesis shows up and now they are all the same. Having to fight him and his various unexpected forms was a awesome though and each are well done. They are cool moments granted, but these limited engagements were disappointing. The rest are enclosed boss encounters requiring you to fight or run away. A handful of times he appears among general enemies and feels like a threat but it’s a very rare occurrence. His encounters are all scripted and limited in their scope which was a disappointment. Moving on to our big boy himself, while he was a fairly consistent threat in the original game, Nemesis is a bit of a pushover this time sadly. I was never frustrated in a situation but occasionally made the decision to push past something instead of killing it or taking a second to prepare before going through an area. So of course there are plenty of spots that have enemy patterns designed to corner or overwhelm which upped the tension. There are various tweaks and changes all over to make the game a joy to play.Įven in the original game the scale of enemy encounters were larger than the predecessors. ![]() The gameplay here instantly felt familiar but more refined from the experience we came from the year before. Jill and Carlos have plenty of small banter moments which are fun to hear and very well acted. Perhaps where it shines best though is in the dialog and line reads by the cast. The game has a bit more situational music than 2 and none of it felt out of place thankfully. Being able to hear Nemesis’ loud plodding steps, monster screeches, and weapon fire with clear audio was a treat. The audio design in the game is on point once again. All of these looked great in my opinion and really sold the horror aspect of the designs of the various creatures. Our main antagonist called Nemesis also received some cosmetic updates. Our usual zombies have returned but creatures like the hunters have gotten significant redesigns making them even more frightening. The monsters as well have been redesigned from the ground up. Carlos in particular seems to have gotten the better end of the redesign stick while some diehards still long for Jill’s old model inspiration, who, while still beautiful, might not be the right, pick 20 years later. Similarly the rest of the cast like Carlos and Mikhail were all redesigned and sport the faces of new, real live scanned actors. Instead of looking like she just walked out of the club in 1999, she now has an outfit more akin to someone that was at home wearing casual wear. Jill, our hero, has her general costume updated to make a bit more sense to her situation. The main cast of characters are beautifully realized and re-imagined as expected. It is still the same visual style and engine as 2 but the small changes to it really do make a sharper presentation from start to end. ![]() Instead things like lighting and facial animations have been enhanced it seems. Capcom did not just rest on the engine they made for 2. Let’s see if this entry can stack up to the successes last year’s Resident Evil 2.įrom the outset it a few tweaks have been made to the visuals in RE3. ![]() Only a year later, Capcom is treating its fans to another Resident Evil remake with Resident Evil 3. ![]()
